Thanksgiving Day Festivities...

Thanksgiving was a day filled with activities from early morning to the very end of the day! We started by getting up BEFORE the crack of dawn to participate in the 5K Turkey Trot in Detroit (before the Thanksgiving Day parade). Traffic was crazy and by some miracle we made it in time to run... here are the results...

Grace 23:53 (she was challenged by all the people that were obstacles in her path, but finished with a respectable time ... and best time from our group).

Anastasia and Eric - tied with a time of 29:46 (THANK you, Eric, for keeping an eye on our littlest one:)

Zachariah - 43:26 (tough day for him with a cramp that wouldn't quit)
Ann Marie - 43:27 (I had plenty of time to snap pictures with my camera phone througout the course this time:)

Brandon and Allison - tied with a time of 55:56 (great job for their first 5K ever!)

Mike completed the 10K with an awesome time of 50:52 (GREAT job, Mike!)

THEN.. we headed to Brandon's for post-race food. However, Anastasia got car sick (?) and we ended up at home for a little clean up! After regrouping, we headed to Brandon's to consume a nice spread of food.

After working really hard (and failing) at not overeating at Brandon's we drove home to finish making the sweet potatoes and Artichoke and Sun Dried Tomato Dip.... during which time, Anastasia got sick again (ugh), which changed our plans again. Guy took the first shift with dinner at the home of our friends; then we switched.

Our meal consisted of more food than the mind can comprehend.. including turkey, ham, bacon-wrapped sausage (seriously good), three kinds of potatoes, four kinds of cranberry sauce, two kinds of dressing, carrots, peas, green bean casserole, and MORE (the wine was great too and I lost track of the different foods that were served)... BUT WOW! It was SUPER GOOD!

After rounding up the kids, we made it home as the clock struck midnight...

What a great day of celebrating that for which we are thankful.

German Night!

I LOVE to make German food... I'm just limited in recipes thus far...

Last night I tried a new recipe in which I added fresh red and yellow peppers to homemade kraut then added some yummy brats and doused the entire concoction with a bottle of beer and baked it for an hour. IT WAS SO YUMMY! My entire family loved it. I will definitely make it again.

Anastasia

Cleaning Anastasia's room today I noticed a pad of paper stuck near the side of her bed... this is what she wrote (when she should have been sleeping)...

Moonlight Marshmellow

Finnaly the most beautiful night ever!
The moonlight was as milky as the cream from cream puffs!
The moon looked like a super sized marshmellow!
The color of a supreame white bunny!!!!
Whiter than a penguins belly.
When you are in the car the creamy white moon will find you where ever you hide forever...until morning the sun will find you.

Quote for the day (thanks to a FB post)...

"The world ain't all sunshine and rainbows. It's a very mean and nasty place, and I don't care how tough you are, it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard a life.

But it ain't about how hard ya hit. It's about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward. How much can you take and keep moving forward. That's how winning is done! Now if you know what you're worth, then go out and get what you're worth. But ya gotta be willing to take the hits, and not pointing fingers, saying you ain't where you want to be because of him, or her, or anybody! Cowards do that, and that ain't you!"

A Quote for Today....

From Charlie Brown:

The people that who make a difference in your life are not the ones with the most credentials, the most money, or the most awards. They are the ones that care.

Blessings on your day:)

Happy New Year!!!!

Today (January 2nd) we had Pat and Gary and Cyndi over for dinner which consisted of Chicken with Mushrooms and Sundried Tomatoes with Pasta with a creamy mushroom sauce. Pretty yummy. I bought Tiramasu for dessert since I have not perfected that recipe yet. Yummy dinner:)
